Working hard for our shareholders
As we continue to grow in experience as a plc, we’re improving the way we do things. We’re working to create a business that meets the needs of our shareholders and our customers. This means adding value for you by looking after our customers in a way that’s good for them and good for our business. Our 2007 results tell us that we are on the way to achieving that balance.

Our business performance for the Group in 2007
- Worldwide new business sales up 13%. £16,423m up 13% (2006: £14,599m)
- Underlying profit before tax up 32%. £714m up 32% (2006: £540m)
- Operating profit before tax up 43%. £881m up 43% (2006: £614m)
- Return on embedded value up 2.6%. 11.5% up 2.6% points (2006: 8.9%)
- Capital and cash generation up 129%. £600m up 129% (2006: £262m)
- New business margin up 0.7%. 2.1% up 0.7% points (2006: 1.4%)
Sales figures are on a PVNBP (Present Value of New Business Premiums) basis. Underlying profit figures are based on an IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) basis. Other measures above are based on EEV (European Embedded Value). All comparators are with the twelve months of 2006.
