Environmental Management System

Standard Life has developed an Environmental Management System and reporting structure based on ISO 14001, Defra publication 'Environmental Key Performance Indicators' and the 'FORGE Guidelines for the Financial Services Sector'. The data and any reports are internally audited to ensure the accuracy of their content

We have reviewed our UK business operations with regard to our impact on the environment and have identified the areas of greatest concern. From this initial survey we have developed an action plan to minimise our local and global impacts. This plan is set annually and reviewed quarterly at Director level with the progress report being passed to the Board for discussion

Our Environment Policy is published on this website along with any major achievements throughout the year.

Major impacts

As with most companies of our type we have identified our major impacts as:
  • Direct consumption of energy, water and paper

  • Balance of waste sent for recycling or landfill

  • Indirect impact from purchase of goods or services.

Reporting

From 2006 our annual Corporate Responsibility Report will be published with a specific section on environmental performance and measurement with a view to providing an open and honest account of our impacts and our progress towards reducing these wherever possible.
