Championing responsibility
With around 7 million customers and around
1.5 million shareholders in over 50 countries,
Standard Life has a big part to play in both
our local and global communities, and that's
something we take very seriously. In 2007, I
was delighted to be appointed as The Prince's
Ambassador for Corporate Social Responsibility in
Scotland by Scottish Business in the Community.
I am determined to use this opportunity to champion the opportunities that businesses in Scotland have to work together to address some key issues. My particular areas of focus are climate change and education to employability.
Of course, corporate responsibility extends beyond how we manage resources. I believe, used wisely, it is something that can make a positive contribution to society. As the nature of our business is in managing assets, we believe we have a duty to help people grow, secure and manage their wealth. We are setting out to build relationships that our customers can rely on for life.
Research tells us that our approach has earned us high levels of trust from our customers, something that contrasts favourably with wider misgivings about the financial services sector. I believe it's vital for our industry to address this entrenched scepticism and start building a new confidence that will be good for all financial businesses, their shareholders and customers everywhere.
