Policy on external appointments
Subject to the Board's approval, executive Directors are able to accept a limited number of external appointments to the boards of other organisations. Any fees may be retained by the individual.
Sandy Crombie is a member of the board of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and is also a trustee of The Stewart Ivory Foundation and of the Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust. He is also a director of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. In addition he is The Prince's Ambassador for Corporate Social Responsibility in Scotland for Scottish Business in the Community. He does not receive any fees for these appointments.
David Nish received fees of £41,000 as a non-executive director of Northern Foods plc. He is also a non-executive director of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and receives no fees for this work.
Keith Skeoch is a member of the boards of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and the Investment Management Association and receives no fees for these appointments.
During 2007, Trevor Matthews was a board member of the Edinburgh International Science Festival and a trustee of the Scotland Funds. He was also the Deputy President of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a member of the Scottish Government's Financial Services Advisory Board. He received no fees for these appointments.
