Meeting attendance
The Company requires Directors to attend all meetings of the Board and the Committees on which they serve, and to devote enough time to the Company to perform their duties. It is sometimes necessary to call or rearrange meetings at short notice and it is recognised that it may be difficult for all Directors to attend in these circumstances. Board and Committee papers are generally distributed before meetings and Directors who are unable to be present provide feedback to the Chairman or the Group Company Secretary and General Counsel. The attendance of the Directors at the Board and Committee meetings held in 2007 is shown in this table:

(iv) Crawford Gillies was appointed to the Board on 1 January 2007
(v) Baroness McDonagh was appointed to the Board on 1 March 2007
(vi) Alison Mitchell resigned from the Board on 29 May 2007

Trevor Matthews resigned from the Board on 29 January 2008.
