Standard Life Chairman's Awards recognises "truly inspiring individuals"



Standard Life held their annual Chairman's Awards Ceremony in the Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor Hotel last night. Now in its third year, the Chairman's Awards initiative, hosted by Gerry Grimstone, is a global awards programme designed to recognise and celebrate the outstanding efforts of Standard Life employees in their local communities. 

Over 120 guests attended, including the award finalists, senior executives, charity representatives and notable external guests. 

Awards were presented in six categories for;

Winners received a commemorative award and a £1,000 donation to their charity or community group. One runner-up and one highly commended nominee for each category received a framed certificate and a £500 donation to their charity or community group.

Gerry Grimstone, Chairman of Standard Life said: "Standard Life has a long history of corporate community investment and through these awards we recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions of Standard Life employees through their commitment to the environment, volunteering, education and fundraising. I am honoured to present these awards to such admirable and truly inspiring individuals".

Notes to Editors

  1. Winners were:
    Environment Award - Yvonne Carruthers, Senior Technician, Standard Life UKFS, for her inovlement in the Water of Leith clean up project for over 9 years.

    Volunteering Award (individual) - Sanjay Joshi, Actuary, Standard Life UKFS, for dedicating over 75 hours of his time every month to volunteering with six different charities.

    Volunteering Award (team) - Sales Strategic Change Team, Standard Life UKFS, for raising over £2,000 to build an environmental garden for Craigroyston Primary School.

    Fundraising Award (Individual) - Antonio Musano, Technology Specialist, Standard Life Canada, for his efforts in actively fundraising for over nine years.

    Fundraising Award (team) - Charity Ball Team, Standard Life Investments, for hosting a charity ball which raised funds of an astonishing £122,468.52 for the Edinburgh based charity Children with Cancer and Leukaemia Advice and Support for Parents (CCLASP).

    Education in the Community Award - Gunther Wagner, Sales, Standard Life Germany/Austria, for becoming the founder and director of Human Helps Human, a non-profit organisation founded four years ago to help those who had been affected by the tsunami and civil war which devastated Sri Lanka.
