Scottish art and design graduates hit world stage

Top graduates from Scotland's art and design colleges have been selected to showcase their work in ROAR!, a unique public exhibition in London recognising excellence in art and design.

Formerly Standard Life Braveart, the annual art and design exhibition was created by Standard Life in 2003 to give graduates in Scotland the opportunity to present their work to a wider audience in one of the top art centres of the world.

Following the successful introduction of design graduates' work in last year's show, the exhibition has been permanently extended to include design as well as fine art. The exhibition has been renamed ROAR! in recognition of this significant addition to the programme.

Since the exhibition began, over 170 graduates have had an opportunity to show their work in London. The four participating colleges are The Glasgow School of Art, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art (Dundee), Edinburgh College of Art and Gray's School of Art (Aberdeen).  Students receive all of the proceeds from the sale of their work.

ROAR! will open with a press and private view at the.gallery@oxo & Bargehouse at Oxo Tower Wharf on Thursday 18 September. The exhibition will then be open to the public from 19 -21 September.

Standard Life Group Chief Executive Sandy Crombie said, "ROAR! is a unique and innovative exhibition of work that will undoubtedly stimulate, challenge and stretch the imagination.  Standard Life is committed to supporting emerging talent, and this year's art and design exhibition of Scotland's finest promises to be the best yet."

Donna Loveday, Head of Exhibitions, Design Museum London and a member of the selection panel, said, "The decision for 2008 to show not only talented artists, but also the work of emerging designers, is certainly welcomed by myself and the curatorial team at the Design Museum London.  It will be a moment for us to look at significant new talent developing from Scotland."
